Ella Langley Honors Her Southern Roots in New Single “Choosin’ Texas”
Ella Langley is keeping the momentum rolling with her latest release, “Choosin’ Texas,” a song that perfectly blends her signature grit with the nostalgic twang of old-school country.
The highly anticipated single finds Langley reflecting on heartbreak and hard truths — realizing that the man she thought was falling for her, and for Tennessee, still belongs to another woman… and to Texas.
“She’s from Texas I can tell by the way / He’s two steppin’ round the room / And judgin’ by the smile that’s written on his face / There’s nothin’ I can do / It doesn’t take a crystal ball to see / A cowboy always finds a way to leave / Drinkin’ Jack all by myself / He’s choosin’ Texas I can tell,”
she sings, her smoky voice carrying equal parts sorrow and strength.
A Dream Collaboration With Miranda Lambert
Langley co-wrote “Choosin’ Texas” alongside Miranda Lambert, Luke Dick, and Joybeth Taylor, with Langley and Lambert co-producing alongside Ben West. Lambert even lends her voice to the background harmonies, adding a warm touch of authenticity to the track.
“I had the amazing opportunity to sit down in a room with Miranda, Luke, and Joybeth on a writing retreat about a year ago,” Langley shared. “We wrote a bunch of songs together, but this one really stuck with me. Miranda, being from Texas, started telling us one of her wild stories about drinkin’ and doing something ridiculous, and I said, ‘Well, she’s from Texas, I can tell.’ We all just looked at each other like — yep, that’s it. That’s the song.”
Lambert returned the praise, saying the Alabama-born artist embodies the fiery spirit of the South.
“Ella may have grown up in Alabama, but she’s got that rowdy, fearless side us Texas women recognize and respect,” Lambert said. “She’s a true artist, and it was important to let her vision shine through every step of the way. I’m so proud of how ‘Choosin’ Texas’ turned out.”
From Studio to Stage
Langley first teased “Choosin’ Texas” during her February show in Nacogdoches, TX, and it instantly became a fan favorite. Last night, she performed it again to a roaring crowd in Houston, part of her sold-out Still Hungover Tour, which has cemented her reputation as one of country’s most exciting live acts.
The tour continues with remaining stops in Helotes, TX; Fort Worth, TX; Athens, GA; Chattanooga, TN; and Starkville, MS, before wrapping with a two-night finale at Nashville’s legendary Ryman Auditorium on November 6 and 7.
A Star With Staying Power
With “Choosin’ Texas,” Langley once again proves why she’s one of country music’s most promising voices. Her raw honesty, powerful delivery, and timeless sound capture everything fans love about the genre — heartbreak, pride, and the pull of home.
It’s another reminder that Ella Langley isn’t just rising — she’s here to stay.
