Riley Green Strikes a Chord with “Worst Way” at CMA Fest 2025

Known for his traditional sound, southern sincerity, and honest lyrics, Riley Green delivered a powerful, no-frills performance of “Worst Way” during CMA Fest 2025 — a track that’s quickly becoming a fan favorite thanks to its emotional depth and raw vulnerability.

    A Song That Cuts Deep
Released earlier this year, “Worst Way” showcases Green at his most emotionally open. Written alongside longtime collaborators Erik Dylan and Randy Montana, the ballad explores the ache of a love that lingers even after it’s gone. With lines like “I miss you in the worst way, but I love you just the same,” the track leans into classic country themes while giving them a fresh, modern delivery.

A Stripped-Back Moment at Nissan Stadium
On Day 2 of CMA Fest, just before sunset, Green took the stage at Nissan Stadium dressed in a simple white t-shirt and boots. With only his guitar in hand, he stepped up to the mic and softly told the crowd, “This one’s for anyone who’s ever tried to move on… and couldn’t.”

The stadium, filled with over 60,000 fans, instantly quieted as he began playing. There were no flashy visuals, no smoke or spectacle — just Green’s worn-in voice and the song’s aching message. It felt more like an intimate acoustic session than a major festival set.

A Fan Favorite Comes to Life
Fans had been waiting for a live rendition of “Worst Way” since its release, and the response was immediate. Social media buzzed with reactions throughout the night, with hashtags like #WorstWayLive and #RileyGreenCMAFest quickly trending.

“This is the song I didn’t know I needed until tonight,” one fan posted. “Riley Green just captured every heartbreak I’ve ever felt.”

Music outlets also praised the performance for its honesty and restraint. Rolling Stone Country called it one of the night’s “most emotionally resonant” moments, and others applauded its “timeless country feel.”

    Holding Onto Country’s Core
While Green followed up with energetic fan-favorites like “There Was This Girl” and “Different ’Round Here,” it was “Worst Way” that stayed with the audience — a reminder that sometimes, the quietest songs leave the loudest impact.

With “Worst Way,” Riley Green continues to prove he’s a rare artist in today’s country landscape — one who can still channel tradition without losing relevance. And judging by the crowd’s reaction, that’s exactly what fans are showing up for.
