Country Singer Conner Smith Involved in Fatal Nashville Accident
Country music artist Conner Smith was reportedly behind the wheel of a Chevrolet Silverado when he fatally struck a pedestrian in Nashville on Saturday, June 8, according to Metro Nashville Police.
Smith, seen recently in casual attire and a ball cap, is now connected to a tragic incident that claimed the life of 77-year-old Dorothy Dobbins. Authorities say Dobbins was crossing within a marked crosswalk near her residence when the collision occurred. She was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead.
Initial reports from police suggest that Smith failed to yield the right of way. He showed no signs of impairment, and investigators found no indication of distraction—such as cellphone use—at the time of the accident. No charges have been filed so far, but the investigation remains ongoing.
Smith’s legal team issued a short statement addressing the incident.
“Mr. Smith was involved in a traffic accident that tragically resulted in a loss of life. His thoughts are with Ms. Dobbins’ loved ones during this difficult time. He continues to fully cooperate with investigators.”
Sources close to the singer have reiterated that the crash was accidental and confirmed Smith was sober and attentive while driving.
The incident happened on the final day of CMA Fest, Nashville’s largest annual country music gathering. Smith, a rising name in country and a Nashville native, is signed to Big Machine’s Valory imprint. He was recently nominated for New Male Artist of the Year at the 2024 ACM Awards and dropped a new single alongside Dylan Marlowe. He’s also featured on the upcoming Twisters movie soundtrack.
Smith, 24, tied the knot with professional surfer Leah Thompson earlier this year. Now, just months into married life, he finds himself at the center of a heartbreaking event that has rocked the local community.
Neither Smith nor his record label has issued additional statements. Metro Police continue to investigate the fatal crash.
