Blake Shelton Makes Powerful AMA Debut with Patriotic Tribute and New Single

Country music icon Blake Shelton finally made his performance debut at the 2025 American Music Awards with a stirring rendition of his latest single, “Stay Country Or Die Tryin’.” The show, held on Monday, May 26 at the Fontainebleau Las Vegas and hosted by Jennifer Lopez, featured a star-studded lineup — but Shelton’s performance stood out for its emotional weight and patriotic message.

Honoring Memorial Day and America’s Fallen Heroes
Shelton used his long-awaited AMA debut to not only share his new music but also pay tribute to those who gave their lives in service to the country. Sporting a red, white, and blue ribbon on his shirt, Shelton ended his performance with a solemn military salute, drawing attention to the deeper significance of Memorial Day.

Before the show, he posted a heartfelt message on social media:

“Never forget the brave men and women who sacrificed everything for our country and our freedom. Remembering our heroes extra today. #MemorialDay”

“Stay Country Or Die Tryin’” Ushers in a New Chapter
The song Shelton performed, “Stay Country Or Die Tryin’,” is the latest single from his recently released album For Recreational Use Only, which dropped on May 9. The single officially launched on May 19, following the success of “Texas,” which marked Shelton’s 30th career No. 1.

A Debut Years in the Making
Despite previously winning three AMAs—including Favorite Male Artist – Country in 2011 and 2016, and Favorite Country Album in 2020—this was Shelton’s first time performing at the awards. And the wait paid off. His emotionally charged and patriotic set was one of the evening’s most talked-about moments.

He performed alongside a powerful lineup that included Gwen Stefani, who honored the 20th anniversary of her debut solo album with a medley and new track, as well as performances by Gloria Estefan, Reneé Rapp, Lainey Wilson, and Benson Boone.

A Touch of Country on a Glamorous Stage
While many artists leaned into the glamour of the night, Shelton brought a grounded, heartfelt tone. His stripped-down performance reminded viewers of country music’s roots—and the true purpose of Memorial Day.

Blake’s tribute struck a chord with many, and fans praised him for keeping the focus on what the day is really about.
