Heavy metal has never looked this graceful. Team USA ice dancers Oona and Gage Brown bring raw power and elegance to the ice in this breathtaking performance.
Captured with stunning cinematography, the video below was filmed at New York’s Bryant Park Winter Village ice rink as part of their 2020 free dance program. It highlights the remarkable talent of the sibling duo, who earned the U.S. pewter medal in 2019.
Oona and Gage come from a big family of seven siblings. During the 2018–2019 season, they represented Team USA and placed 9th and 8th in their Junior Grand Prix events.
Their skating journey began in 2009, sparked by watching their older sister take lessons. Gage took to the ice at age 7, following his sister’s lead, while Oona started at just 5—spending her first year fiercely shuffling around the rink, determined not to accept help or give up.
Originally, both tried singles skating, but they found the pressure of performing alone overwhelming. Pairing up as a team gave them a sense of support and confidence, even though performing still gives them nerves. Together, though, they’ve found their rhythm and strength.
To help fund their training and competition costs, Oona and Gage have launched a GoFundMe campaign. If you’re inspired by their artistry and dedication, you’ll find the donation link at the end of this article.
This captivating video was filmed at 6:45 AM during Thanksgiving break. Though several versions of the performance exist online with different soundtracks, none capture the emotion quite like the one set to Metallica’s “Nothing Else Matters.” (There’s also a version using Avicii’s “Seek Bromance” if you’re curious.)
