Kelsea Ballerini Delivers Powerful Performance of “Baggage” at the 60th ACM Awards
Country music’s biggest names gathered at The Star in Frisco, Texas, on Thursday night to celebrate the 60th Academy of Country Music Awards—and among the standout performances was Kelsea Ballerini, who took the stage with her latest single, “Baggage.”
Ballerini, nominated for three awards including Entertainer of the Year, teased the performance earlier in the week on Instagram, describing it as “a little female rage but mostly blissful acceptance of the journey that got us here.” She ended the teaser with a playful reminder: “because who doesn’t have baggage?”
A Song of Growth and Emotional Honesty
“Baggage,” from her latest album Patterns, explores the emotional weight we bring into new relationships. In the lyrics, Ballerini lays it all out—old memories, unresolved pain, and a willingness to move forward with someone who’s ready to accept it all:
“I got baggage, but I’m movin’ in…”
The track is widely believed to be inspired by her personal journey, including her divorce from musician Morgan Evans and her current relationship with actor Chase Stokes.
A Visual and Vocal Statement
During the live ACM broadcast, Ballerini performed surrounded by golden suitcases—a bold visual nod to the song’s title. The performance was met with cheers, with much of the audience rising to their feet and singing along.
Her emotional delivery, paired with the elegant staging, made “Baggage” one of the night’s most memorable moments.
