Bruce Springsteen and Noah Kahan Deliver Classic Covers at Intimate New Jersey Show

Bruce Springsteen and Noah Kahan surprised fans with a special appearance at a cozy late-night show in Asbury Park, New Jersey, over the weekend.

The two artists joined The Ocean Ave. Stomp featuring Tangiers Blues Band on Saturday (September 14) at the iconic Stone Pony venue. The event was part of the Sea.Hear.Now festival’s late-night series, and featured festival co-founder and renowned photographer Danny Clinch performing alongside the band.

Both Springsteen and Kahan were headliners at this year’s Sea.Hear.Now, and their surprise set brought extra excitement to the weekend.

Springsteen took the stage with energetic renditions of beloved classics, including Little Richard’s “Lucille,” John Lee Hooker’s “Boom Boom Boom,” Them’s “Gloria,” and Chuck Berry’s “Down the Road a Piece.” Kahan followed with his own soulful take on Johnny Cash’s “Folsom Prison Blues.”

The celebration didn’t stop there—joining the fun were guitarist Robert Randolph, E Street Band’s Jake Clemons, Grace Potter, and Rachel Ana Dobken. The collective also performed covers of the Beastie Boys’ “Fight for Your Right,” Neil Young’s “Motorcycle Mama,” and Bob Dylan’s iconic “All Along the Watchtower.”

The night marked Springsteen’s return to the Stone Pony after nearly five years—his last appearance there being a private benefit show in November 2019.

In other Springsteen news, his wife and E Street Band member Patti Scialfa recently revealed she’s been quietly battling a rare form of blood cancer since 2018.

Meanwhile, Springsteen himself is reflecting on his storied career with the new documentary Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen And The E Street Band, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 8. Speaking at a post-screening Q&A, he told the crowd he has no plans to slow down: “If I went tomorrow, it’s OK. What a fucking ride!”

As for Noah Kahan, he’s also making a difference offstage. He recently introduced The Busyhead Project to UK audiences—a non-profit initiative focused on mental health awareness.
