Miranda Lambert and Keith Urban’s Bond Shines in Emotional ACM Honors Duet
Miranda Lambert and Keith Urban share a friendship that has spanned well over a decade. Since first touring together back in 2005, the two country powerhouses have built a deep mutual respect and admiration for each other’s artistry.
That bond led them to collaborate in 2013 on the hit duet We Were Us, which soared to No. 1 on both the U.S. Country Airplay and Hot Country charts, and even made its way to No. 26 on the Billboard Hot 100—a true crossover success.
Given their long-standing connection, it was only fitting that Urban was chosen to honor Lambert at the 2019 ACM Honors held on August 21. Lambert received the prestigious ACM Gene Weed Milestone Award, an accolade reserved for those who’ve had an exceptional and groundbreaking year in country music.
Urban paid tribute to Lambert’s dedication and authenticity during his presentation, saying, “You made the records you wanted to make. You stayed true to yourself, and here you are accepting this award.”
Following his speech, Urban joined Lambert on stage for a special musical moment. Instead of revisiting their duet We Were Us, they chose The House That Built Me, one of Lambert’s most beloved and personal songs.
While Lambert has performed the song solo for years, she’s occasionally shared it with other artists like Patty Loveless and Dia Frampton—but singing it with Urban brought a fresh layer of emotion.
The performance began with a warm embrace between the two friends. Lambert opened the song, with Urban stepping in to sing solo before they came together in harmony. Their delivery was tender, sincere, and deeply moving—leaving few dry eyes in the audience.
You can catch the touching performance in the video below—and after witnessing their incredible onstage chemistry once again, we can only hope there’s another collaboration from these two in the future.
