After “the SUDDEN death of his son Jerry” – he did not seek the noise of the stage but returned to faith, and from the deepest place in his broken heart, “The Father, My Son, and the Holy Ghost” was born. The first time Craig performed the song at the Grand Ole Opry, the whole audience fell silent and then burst into tears, including Ricky Skaggs – who came to hug him and said: “You must sing again, because THE WORLD NEEDS TO HEAR this.” And the most touching moment was when Blake Shelton – Craig’s “close friend” – suddenly walked to the center of the stage, holding Craig’s hand in silence. Val Kilmer: A Tribute to a Legendary Actor and Artist

Val Kilmer, known for his unforgettable roles in Top Gun, Batman Forever, Tombstone, and The Doors, has passed away at the age of 65. Despite enduring significant health challenges, including a battle with throat cancer, Kilmer remained resilient until the end.

    A Voice Lost
Kilmer’s distinct voice was central to his career, adding depth to his characters, including his memorable portrayal of Iceman in Top Gun and his role as the brooding Dark Knight in Batman Forever. His vocal talents extended beyond acting, even lending his voice to KITT in the 2008 Knight Rider TV pilot and series.

In 2015, after undergoing a tracheostomy due to his throat cancer diagnosis, Kilmer’s voice was permanently altered. This left him struggling to speak and ultimately forced him to step away from his beloved film career. His final movie appearance was in Top Gun: Maverick (2022), where he reprised his iconic role as Iceman.

    An Artistic Shift
In 2021, Kilmer teamed up with the company Sonantic to digitally recreate his voice using AI. They used archival audio to create vocal models that would allow his voice to be used in future projects, despite the damage caused by his cancer treatments. However, for Top Gun: Maverick, director Joseph Kosinski clarified that Kilmer’s real voice was used in the film, with only minimal digital enhancement for clarity.

Despite losing his ability to speak, Kilmer’s creative spirit remained strong. He turned to painting and, in 2022, launched Kamp Kilmer, a project focused on collaboration and creative expression. Kilmer poured his heart into this venture, describing his journey with art and his ongoing desire to express his creative soul.

In a heartfelt message on his website, Kilmer wrote, “Six years ago, I was diagnosed with throat cancer, and after much prayer, medical science, and the love of my family and community, I beat cancer. But because of the radiation and chemotherapy, my voice and throat were severely damaged. It isn’t easy to talk and be understood. I am improving all the time, but I am not able to be out in the world the same way I had become accustomed. When one thing is taken, though, another is given.”

    Final Moments
Kilmer’s last Instagram post featured one of his paintings, accompanied by a poetic caption: “It’s got that late-night glow. Cool tones with a low burn, like when the camp fire cools down but you’re still wide awake.” His final post with a photo of himself, published on February 23, featured Kilmer wearing a Batman mask alongside fellow artist David Choe, humorously remarking, “It’s been a while.”

    Tributes and Farewell
Kilmer’s passing has led to an outpouring of tributes from his colleagues and fans. Actor Josh Brolin shared heartfelt words: “You were a smart, challenging, brave, uber-creative firecracker. There’s not a lot left of those. I hope to see you up there in the heavens when I eventually get there. Until then, amazing memories, lovely thoughts.”

Josh Gad also paid tribute: “RIP Val Kilmer. Thank you for defining so many of the movies of my childhood. You truly were an icon.”

Val Kilmer, whose creativity and spirit transcended his health struggles, leaves behind a profound legacy. Rest in peace, Val.
