Gene Hackman’s daughter spotted after autopsy, calls death expected

The mysterious passing of Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, continues to send chills down our spines.

As new details emerge, the story only grows more haunting.

While the media scrambles for answers and authorities delve deeper into the case, those closest to the couple are left to grieve in private, mourning a tragedy no one saw coming.

Leslie Anne Allen, the youngest of Hackman’s three children, was recently seen in public for the first time since the shocking details of her father’s and stepmother’s deaths were revealed.

The 58-year-old was spotted running errands in Los Angeles on March 9, just days after the release of the devastating autopsy reports.

Gene Hackman is survived by three adult children from his first marriage to Faye Maltese: son Christopher Allen and daughters Leslie Anne and Elizabeth Jean.

However, instead of being allowed to mourn in peace, Leslie has found herself at the center of speculation, with some questioning her actions surrounding her father’s death.

    A Devastating Loss
Gene Hackman, 95, and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, were discovered deceased in their New Mexico home in mid-February.

Initially, speculation pointed to carbon monoxide poisoning. In fact, one of Hackman’s daughters, Elizabeth Jean, 63, told TMZ that the family suspected toxic fumes—such as a gas leak—may have been the cause.

However, the official autopsy report from Dr. Heather Jarrell, New Mexico’s Chief Medical Investigator, revealed a far more unsettling reality. Betsy had succumbed to Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome (HPS), a rare and often deadly virus transmitted through rodent droppings or urine.

Hackman, who had been battling advanced Alzheimer’s, passed away a week later from heart disease, seemingly unaware that his wife had died.

    A Disturbing Discovery
The report detailed that Betsy had been experiencing flu-like symptoms—fatigue, fever, and dizziness—before her sudden collapse. She was found with a bottle of medication beside her, indicating she may have been trying to treat herself when she lost consciousness.

Tragically, one of their three dogs, a German Shepherd named Zinna, was also found dead in the same room, while the other two pets were safely rescued.

Despite Hackman’s relatively stable health prior to this, authorities believe the emotional toll of losing his wife may have hastened his decline.

    Leslie Anne Allen Speaks Out
Following the heartbreaking revelation, Leslie Anne Allen opened up about her father’s passing, admitting that due to his age, she had been preparing herself for the inevitable.

“It wasn’t terribly shocking,” she said, reflecting on his later years. She described how he had lived a healthy lifestyle, incorporating a balanced diet and regular exercise, including yoga and Pilates.

She also expressed deep appreciation for Betsy, crediting her with helping to prolong Hackman’s life.

“She took very, very good care of him and was always looking out for his health,” Leslie said. “I am appreciative of her for that, and I’m very saddened by her passing.”

Speaking to MailOnline, she stated there had been “no indication” that her father was unwell before his passing.

    A Conflicting Report
Despite Leslie’s claims that her father was in good health, Dr. Heather Jarrell’s findings painted a different picture.

“Mr. Hackman showed evidence of advanced Alzheimer’s disease,” Jarrell stated. “He was in a very poor state of health. He had significant heart disease, and I believe that ultimately led to his passing.”

Contrary to Leslie’s belief that he was in stable condition, the autopsy revealed severe heart disease, previous heart surgeries, multiple past heart attacks, and kidney complications caused by chronic high blood pressure.

While Leslie had braced herself for her father’s passing, she admitted the sudden death of Betsy and their dog caught her off guard. The medical examiner confirmed that Hantavirus was responsible for Betsy’s death, noting that it is often difficult to diagnose due to its flu-like symptoms.

    The Silent Killer: Hantavirus
Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome (HPS) is a rare but deadly disease spread through exposure to rodent waste. Its early symptoms closely mimic common illnesses, making diagnosis challenging.

“In the early stages, it looks just like the flu,” said infectious disease specialist Dr. Patricio Ros. “That’s what makes it so dangerous—it often isn’t caught in time.”

With a fatality rate of approximately 38%, the virus has no direct cure, making prevention essential. Health experts emphasize rodent-proofing homes and using proper cleaning methods to minimize risk.

    A Family in Mourning
As Leslie Anne Allen processes the loss of both her father and stepmother, public reaction has been mixed. While many have expressed sympathy, others have raised questions about why Leslie hadn’t checked in on her father more frequently.

“Check on him,” some critics have pointed out, wondering if the tragedy could have been prevented with more regular visits.

Leslie, however, maintains that she and her father remained close despite her living in California. “We were close… I hadn’t talked to them for a couple of months, but everything was normal and everything was good,” she said.

    A Final Goodbye
The loss of Gene Hackman, one of Hollywood’s most beloved actors, and his wife Betsy is a heartbreaking reminder of how fragile life can be.

As the family mourns, our thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time. This tragedy serves as a solemn reminder to cherish our loved ones and make the most of the time we have together.
