The targeted shooting that took place outside of the New York Hilton on December 4, 2024, resulted in the unfortunate death of Brian Thompson, the Chief Executive Officer of UnitedHealthcare. A gunman approached the executive, who was fifty years old, from behind and fired multiple shots at him. He was on his way to an investor conference at the time as the shooting occurred.

Unfortunately, Brian was pronounced dead at Mount Sinai West despite the fact that he received emergency medical care. First on foot, and then on a rental bike, the perpetrator of the attack made his escape from the scene. It has been established by the authorities that Brian had received threats before to the incident; however, the specifics of these threats are yet unknown.

Paulette, his wife, expressed her profound sorrow and recalled Brian as a caring parent and a giving leader who left an indelible mark on those who were fortunate enough to be in his presence. Since the year 2004, Brian had been working for UnitedHealth Group. He resided in Minnesota with Paulette and their two sons.

As time went on, he rose through the ranks to become the Chief Executive Officer of the company in 2021. His commitment to expanding access to medical treatment earned him accolades for his leadership in the healthcare sector, and he was well-known for his efforts in this area. UnitedHealth Group issued a statement expressing their sorrow that he had passed away, and the authorities are continuing their investigation into the incidents.
