Jamie Foxx recently spoke out on speculation surrounding his hospitalization last year, with some wondering if music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs had a role in it. Multiple attendees from the taping of Foxx’s upcoming Netflix special, What Had Happened Was, have shared mixed accounts of Foxx’s comments.
According to filmmaker Choke No Joke, who attended two of the three shows held October 4–6 in Atlanta, Foxx reportedly suggested that Combs might have been behind his health scare, even claiming he “called the FBI” on Combs. It remains unclear if these statements will appear in the final edit. Choke noted that, as a comedian himself, he didn’t believe Foxx was joking, although he encouraged viewers to make their own judgments when the special airs.
Foxx allegedly hinted at his fears following his sudden disappearance from the public eye, suggesting that he reappeared as soon as Combs was taken into custody. He also mentioned his close relationship with Combs, implying that their friendship may have fractured.
Meanwhile, Big Homie CC, a celebrity bodyguard, echoed similar claims in a recent interview, alleging that Combs poisoned Foxx, leading him to report the incident to federal authorities. Media Take Out further reported that Foxx touched on the incident humorously at times, but one attendee, Dennis L.A. White, said Foxx also clarified that Combs was not responsible, adding, “If he was, I would’ve been dead.” White did not recall Foxx mentioning federal authorities in his remarks.

Foxx later took to Instagram, expressing gratitude to Atlanta and the medical team who cared for him. “I had an opportunity to tell my side of the story, and there was no better place than Atlanta,” Foxx wrote.
Foxx’s hospitalization was first announced by his daughter, Corinne, in April 2023 as a “medical complication.” Though he eventually shared more details, Foxx has remained private about the specifics, calling the ordeal a “hellish” journey and admitting he feared for his life. He later reflected on a period of “fake friends and fake love,” which many interpreted as hinting at his strained relationships.
Combs was accused by prosecutors of “abusing, threatening, and coercing women and others in his vicinity to fulfill his sexual desires, protect his reputation, and conceal his conduct” for decades.
At the same time, Combs faces serious legal battles. Currently detained in Brooklyn without bail, he was arrested last month on charges including racketeering and sex trafficking. Authorities reported finding drugs, firearms, and incriminating recordings in raids on his properties. Prosecutors allege Combs created a “criminal enterprise” involving abuse, forced labor, and trafficking. Combs denies all charges, with his trial scheduled for May 2025, where he could face life imprisonment if convicted.
