Following Kate Middleton’s public announcement of her cancer diagnosis, the Palace has been inundated with well-wisher correspondence. Every week, the palace gets up to 1,000 messages from the public; but, ever since Kate disclosed her disease and the prophylactic chemotherapy, the volume of letters has skyrocketed. The team finds it difficult to handle this massive volume of communication, but they make every effort to reply to all of the well-wishers at some point. The Court Post Office handles all correspondence to the Royal Family, but the Prince and Princess of Wales maintain a private office at Kensington Palace.
Kate had a scheduled abdominal surgery back in the middle of January, necessitating a two-week hospital stay. Even then, there were suspicions in the public and media about her health because it appeared that she was in the hospital for longer than anticipated. After the operation, the princess vanished from view. Her whereabouts were a source of curiosity, and the Palace’s only official response at the time was that she “was doing fine.”
