Princess Diana’s brother-in-law and a significant member of the British royal family, Lord Robert Fellowes, died at the age of 82. Between 1990 to 1999, Lord Fellowes served as Queen Elizabeth II’s personal secretary. During that turbulent decade, the Queen oversaw the divorces of three of her children and the untimely passing of Princess Diana.
He stood beside the Queen through the trying year of 1992, which she dubbed her “Annus Horribilis” due to the public and personal difficulties the royal family faced, including the Windsor Castle fire.
Three children were born to Lord Fellowes and Lady Jane Spencer, Diana’s sister, after their 1978 marriage. Later on, he was appointed chairman of the Prison Reform Trust and made a life peer.
After Diana passed away, Lord Fellowes was instrumental in helping the Queen prepare her much-applauded speech to the country, demonstrating his steadfast devotion to the Queen. With his death, the royal family comes to an end of an era, leaving a legacy of dedication and duty.
