Candice Bergen is a television icon, having built a remarkable career over the decades with her versatility and talent. Known for her resilience and independent spirit, Bergen has proven time and again that she lives life on her own terms.

    A Star is Born

Candice Bergen’s career began in the world of modeling, gracing the pages of magazines like Vogue. Her stunning looks and poise quickly transitioned her into acting, where she earned widespread acclaim. Bergen’s breakthrough came with her role in the television series “Murphy Brown,” a part that won her five Emmy Awards and solidified her status as a household name.

    Overcoming Obstacles

Interestingly, Bergen’s iconic role in “Murphy Brown” was initially intended for a younger actress, Heather Locklear. However, Bergen’s audition impressed writer and producer Diane English, who insisted she was perfect for the role. The show’s success was phenomenal, and Bergen’s portrayal of the sharp-witted reporter became beloved by audiences nationwide. “That character gave me permission to be my brattiest, bawdiest self,” Bergen fondly recalls.

    Shifting Priorities

Despite her success, Bergen’s priorities shifted over time. After winning her fifth Emmy, she asked not to be considered for the award again, choosing to focus on living her life differently. In her memoir “A Fine Romance,” Bergen candidly discusses her relationship with food and body image. She embraces her love for eating, stating, “Let me just come right out and say it: I am fat. I live to eat. None of this ‘eats to live’ stuff for me.”

    Embracing Life

Bergen’s memoir details her enjoyment of decadent meals and her indifference to societal pressures to stay thin. “I am a champion eater. No carb is safe—no fat, either,” she wrote. She criticizes the extreme measures some women take to maintain their figures, such as vomiting after meals, declaring she would never resort to such practices. Bergen encourages women to enjoy their current selves rather than obsess over youthful looks.

    A New Chapter

In her personal life, Bergen is a devoted mother and grandmother. Her first marriage to French director Louis Malle lasted 15 years until his death in 1995. They had a daughter, Chloe Malle. In the 2000s, Bergen married Marshall Rose, and their marriage continues to thrive. She is now a proud grandmother to Chloe’s children, Arthur Louis Albert, born in 2020, and Alice Malle Albert, born in April 2022.

    Loving Grandmother

Bergen often shares sweet moments from her life on social media, expressing her joy in being a grandmother. She has publicly expressed her excitement for her daughter becoming a mother, saying, “She is the love of my life.”

Candice Bergen’s life and career are a testament to her strength, talent, and individuality. From her groundbreaking role in “Murphy Brown” to her candid reflections on life and aging, Bergen continues to inspire. As she enjoys her role as a grandmother and embraces her passions, Bergen remains a beloved figure in the entertainment world. We wish her all the love and happiness in the world.
