Princes William and Harry, estranged by years of distance and duty, reunited for the first and only time this year—not for diplomacy, but for love. It was their mother’s 63rd birthday, and they chose to honor her not with speeches or ceremony, but with something far more personal: silence, song, and memory. Inside a quiet London hotel suite, with only a piano and a flickering candle between them, the brothers shared stories, laughter, and finally, a trembling duet of the song they once sang for Diana as children. Staff standing nearby were said to be frozen by emotion—some sobbing silently—as the future king and his brother, stripped of status, became only sons again. When the final note faded, Harry turned to William and whispered, “She would’ve loved this,” to which William replied, “She never left.” And in that moment, every heart in the room broke—and began to heal.

Iconic singer-songwriter Carly Simon’s incredible rise to prominence in the ’70s and subsequent struggles with cancer serve as an inspiration to this day.

After releasing her first album in 1971, Simon shot to fame thanks to singles like “That’s the Way, I’ve Always Heard It Should Be.”

Among her many accomplishments is her 2022 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and her Grammy Award. Unfortunately, her Hall of Fame entrance was overshadowed by the tragic deaths of her sisters, Lucy and Joanna Simon, who passed away from cancer just one day apart.

Cancer has been a long and difficult battle for the Simon family. In 2018, while fighting lung cancer, Carly Simon’s brother also died of a heart attack.

It is with great sadness that I must inform you of the passing of Joanna and Lucy Simon,” Simon told Deadline, reflecting on the loss of her sisters. Their emptiness will linger for a long time. No matter how tragic this day is, we must remember them and honor the extraordinary lives they led.

Particularly for individuals with a history of cancer in their family, Carly Simon’s experience highlights the significance of being informed and taking proactive measures to control one’s health.
