Grandson quits job, gives up everything to become 96-year-old grandma’s full-time caregiver

Many of us claim there’s nothing we wouldn’t do for the happiness and well-being of our family members. While kindness and emotional support are common gestures, few might consider giving up their job, relocating halfway across the world, and dedicating their life to caring for a relative. Chris Punsalan, a content creator and musician from the Philippines, faced this extraordinary decision.

Chris’s family resides in Nevada, but his 96-year-old grandmother lives in the Philippines. When his grandmother ran out of caregivers, the family contemplated sending her to a care home. In a remarkable display of devotion, Chris decided to uproot his entire life and move back to the Philippines to serve as his grandmother’s full-time caregiver.

Speaking to ABS-CBN a few years ago, Chris expressed his motivation: “She took care of me, and I would hate to see her go to homecare, which is where I feel most grandparents go in America. They go to home care because nobody is able to take care of them.”

Chris, already known for his online content, never expected his decision to go viral. He embraced this new journey by sharing videos, including a glimpse into a typical day caring for his grandmother.

“To see her forget who I am sometimes and for me to have to remind her,” he shared. “That’s probably one of the more difficult things because it’s a constant reminder that life is very fragile, and it’s very short.”

While Chris lives away from the rest of his family and has made significant sacrifices, he considers himself fortunate to spend valuable time with his elderly relative. His compassionate decision has inspired many, shedding light on the importance of family and the sacrifices some are willing to make for their loved ones.
