Kelly Clarkson Discusses Decision to Relocate Show to NYC: A Healthier, Happier Working Environment
The prominent singer Kelly Clarkson has shed light on her reasons for shifting the location of her successful talk show to New York City, advocating for a healthier and more enjoyable working environment. The 41-year-old vocalist expressed her perspectives in a recent interview with Nancy O’Dell on TalkShopLive, highlighting the necessity of the move for her and her two children, Remington “Remy” Alexander, 7, and River Rose, 8.
Unveiling the Rationale behind the Relocation
“I haven’t had much chance to explain this publicly, so I’m grateful for the opportunity to discuss,” said Clarkson, acknowledging the curiosity around the relocation decision. “Back in January, I had an emotional conversation with my crew. I’ve built a fantastic team over the years, full of talented individuals.”
As she enters the fifth season of ‘The Kelly Clarkson Show’ this fall, a season already extended till 2025, Clarkson reflected on her journey and her relationship with her team.
“We’ve tasted a lot of success together, and our work relationship is a beautiful bond,” she continued. “Hence, it was essential for me to be upfront with them about my situation. My options were limited – either discontinue the show or move it to the East Coast.”
The Role of Family & COVID-19 in the Decision
Clarkson pointed out how COVID-19 revealed the hardships of living isolated from loved ones, especially when they are situated miles away. “My family is from the East Coast, specifically North Carolina. Alongside other personal matters, I found myself needing to make this move,” she said. The singer shares her two children with ex-husband Brandon Blackstock, from whom she separated in 2020 after nearly seven years together.
Striving for a Healthier and More Enjoyable Work Environment
Even though some aspects of her life are still in transition, both emotionally and professionally, Clarkson emphasized that her relocation move is primarily driven by her longing for a healthier and more enjoyable work setting.
“I’m getting to an age where I refuse to work in an environment that doesn’t bring joy and health,” she expressed. “For years, I’ve tolerated this in various meetings, dealing with some truly harsh individuals. Right now, I want to concentrate on my talk show and other ongoing projects.”
Addressing Claims of Unhealthy Work Environment
Earlier this month, a Rolling Stone article alleged an unhealthy work environment on Clarkson’s show, with claims of crew members being overworked, underpaid, and suffering mental health issues.
Reacting to these allegations, Clarkson responded on Instagram: “Throughout my 20-year career in showbiz, I’ve always stood by my principles and what I felt was right. Learning about anyone feeling overlooked or disrespected on ‘The Kelly Clarkson Show’ is deeply upsetting, as I have immense love for my crew.”
She reiterated her commitment to maintain a safe and healthy atmosphere on her show and will continue to do so as she prepares to make the move to NYC.
“In preparation for our move, I am resolute in ensuring our current and new team members in New York will enjoy the best and kindest work atmosphere in the industry,” she pledged. “All senior staff, including myself, will undergo leadership training for this transition. There is always room for growth in any organization, particularly in leadership roles. My focus is on ensuring the eradication of any toxic elements,” she concluded, echoing her stance as a former American Idol contestant committed to fostering a healthy working environment.
