Candace Cameron Bure in Social Media Crossfire Over Fast Food Statement
Renowned actress Candace Cameron Bure, famed from her early acting days, now 47 and still celebrated, recently found herself at the receiving end of fan fury. Let’s delve into why this accomplished actress is currently in a tight spot.
Fast Food Controversy
Candace Cameron Bure has been fending off criticism on social media after claiming that she hasn’t eaten fast food, barring In-N-Out, for two decades. The actress shared an Instagram story stating,
“I haven’t eaten fast food except for In-N-Out in 20 years. Some days I wonder what a burger and fries is like from McDonald’s or Burger King or Wendy’s or any of those other places I’ve never eaten at. Today is that day. Am I going to find out? No.”
She further added that she has never eaten at Taco Bell or similar places, expressing no regret for her decision.
Accusations of Falsehood
However, skeptical social media users doubted Bure’s statement. Some even produced an old picture from her Instagram, which she has since removed, showing the actress holding a Chick-Fil-A cup alongside one of her sons, captioned, “We love chikin!”
This 2012 picture prompted some to accuse Bure of lying about her fast food history, but instead of ignoring the accusations, she had her spokesperson respond. The spokesperson defended the actress, stating that she had driven her son to Chick-fil-A and only ordered an iced tea for herself. Her representation also deemed the allegations of dishonesty as ‘ridiculous.’
Overcoming an Eating Disorder
Bure has been transparent about her past struggle with an eating disorder. In her 2010 book ‘Reshaping It All,’ and a 2016 interview, she candidly spoke about her journey with bulimia and how she used food for comfort when feeling alone.
“I kind of lost my identity in a sense… I had a very unhealthy relationship with food that turned into bulimia. I dealt with it for several years… It was about trying to find comfort or fill voids within myself,” the actress confessed.
Her focus now is to ensure that her three children, Natasha, Lev, and Maksim, whom she shares with husband Valeri Bure, learn healthy eating habits and fitness.
This controversy isn’t the first time Bure has faced public backlash. She previously came under scrutiny for her comments about marriage.
