Valerie Bertinelli Opens Up About Past Emotional Abuse
Overcoming the Effects of Abuse
Golden Globe-winning actress Valerie Bertinelli recently shared her experience of emotional, verbal, and mental abuse on her Instagram Story.
She recalled wearing an old pair of pants and hearing the sound of the fabric rubbing together, which reminded her of an ex-partner who mocked her weight and called her lazy.
Bertinelli admitted that these comments led her to put the jeans away and change the way she walked in them, but she now sees the sound as a symbol of freedom and is no longer affected by the negativity.
The Hidden Bruises of Emotional Abuse
Bertinelli explained that emotional, verbal, and mental abuse leave unseen scars that survivors deal with daily. Anticipating criticism from those who might accuse her of dwelling on the past, she asserted that healing takes time and effort.
Healing and Moving Forward
In a previous emotional video, Bertinelli discussed the same ex-partner who referred to her as “fat and lazy.”
In her recent Instagram Story, she expressed gratitude for the progress she’s making in healing, saying that it now makes her giggle. Bertinelli added that she is “long over the narcissist” and is working on understanding why she tolerated the intolerable for so long.
Valerie Bertinelli has been married twice, both ending in divorce. She finalized her divorce from financial planner Tom Vitale in 2022 and shares a son, Wolfgang, with the late rocker Eddie Van Halen.
