Renowned weatherman Al Roker received a heartwarming surprise when his TODAY show colleagues, along with a large group of carolers, serenaded him outside his home just hours after his first Zoom appearance since being hospitalized in mid-November due to blood clots.
The 68-year-old Roker informed fans of his hospitalization on Instagram, explaining that blood clots in his leg had traveled to his lungs. Despite the medical challenges, Roker remained grateful for the excellent care he was receiving. His absence was most noticeable during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, the first he’d missed in 27 years. Luckily, Roker was able to return home in time to enjoy some of the parade and Thanksgiving dinner.
However, Roker’s time at home was short-lived, as he was readmitted to the hospital after the holiday, causing him to miss hosting the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting. The beloved weatherman recently returned home, expressing gratitude for the support and prayers from his fans and acknowledging the difficulties he faced during this health battle.
Roker noted that he lost muscle mass and strength during his four-week hospital stay, leading to daily physical and occupational therapy sessions. Despite the setbacks, he maintained a positive outlook, feeling stronger each day.
To lift his spirits, Roker’s TODAY family, including Hoda Kotb, Savannah Guthrie, and Dylan Dreyer, surprised him with renditions of “Jingle Bells” and “I’ll Be Home for Christmas.” The touching moment moved everyone to tears, and Roker expressed his gratitude to his colleagues for their unwavering support.
Fans nationwide are rooting for Al Roker’s speedy recovery and eagerly anticipate his return to the small screen.
