Tennessee is approaching a death-penalty decision with unusual historical significance.
Christa Pike, who has spent approximately three decades on death row, is scheduled to be executed on September 30, 2026.
Her attorneys are asking Governor Bill Lee to intervene and commute her death sentence to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.
If the execution proceeds, Pike would become the first woman executed by Tennessee in more than two centuries.
