Dolly Parton was only about six years old when she wrote what would become her first song, “Little Tiny Tasseltop.” It was inspired by a corncob doll with corn-silk hair, and her mother treasured the handwritten creation enough to keep it safely tucked away in a shoebox.

Decades later, Parton still remembered the little doll — and the instinct to turn her feelings into music.
