    When Truth Arrives After Many Years

    Eight years ago, a car accident changed my life.

    I lost both of my parents, and the injuries I sustained left me using a wheelchair. In the years that followed, my grandmother Ruth became my home, my encouragement, and my steady source of strength.

    She never allowed me to think of myself as defined by what I had lost.

    Instead, she taught me to keep building a life with patience, gratitude, and hope, even when grief remained close.

    By the time senior prom arrived, I attended simply because I wanted to share in an important milestone with my classmates.

    Still, as the evening unfolded, I found myself sitting quietly at the edge of the room, watching others celebrate while feeling uncertain about where I belonged.

    Then Daniel walked over.

    Without drawing attention to my wheelchair or trying to make the moment extraordinary, he simply invited me to join everyone else.

    For a few minutes, I stopped feeling like someone being observed.
