Listening to the Quiet Warnings
By the age of fifty-three, I believed I had finally built a peaceful life.
The years had brought their share of disappointments and lessons, including two divorces and the demands of a long legal career. Yet they had also brought stability, independence, and a deeper appreciation for the value of calm.
Then I met Richard.
He was attentive, thoughtful, and easy to talk to. He remembered details that others overlooked and seemed genuinely interested in building a future together. After years of learning from both success and heartbreak, I found myself cautiously hopeful.
For a time, that hope felt well placed.
