She was an experienced hiker and understood the demands of remote travel. Even so, mountains have a way of reminding people that experience reduces risk but never removes it entirely.
During her three-day trek, Amelia slipped while crossing snow and ice. She fell hundreds of feet down the mountainside before finally coming to a stop.
The fall left her injured, shaken, and alone in a landscape where small mistakes can quickly become serious. What had begun as an adventure suddenly became a test of endurance, judgment, and patience.
