Supreme Court Asked to Consider Limits of Border Authority and Access to Asylum
The Supreme Court is once again being asked to address a difficult question at the intersection of immigration law, border management, and asylum protections.
At issue is a practice known as “metering,” under which immigration authorities limited the number of individuals permitted to approach certain ports of entry to request asylum in the United States.
Although the policy itself is no longer in effect, the legal questions surrounding it remain significant because the Court’s decision may influence how future administrations approach similar challenges.
