Chapter 8: Learning Breakfast
So Julian began with breakfast.
Not boardrooms. Not threats. Not money wired through hidden channels or favors called in before sunrise.
Breakfast.
Blueberry muffins on Tuesdays. Pancakes on Saturdays. Hot chocolate when Maya asked, even when he first made it too bitter and she wrinkled her nose with devastating honesty.
He learned that she hated raisins, loved purple markers, and asked questions in sudden, serious bursts.
He learned that fatherhood could not be commanded into existence.
It had to be earned in ordinary moments.
Hannah allowed him closer, but never carelessly. She set terms. Consistency. Honesty. No disappearing behind business. No bringing danger to their door and calling it protection.
Julian accepted every condition.
Then he began the slow, dangerous work of dismantling the empire that had made him untouchable.
