Grant tried to explain.
Men like him always do.
They mistake explanation for innocence. They believe the right tone can turn betrayal into misunderstanding.
But I was no longer his frightened wife waiting for a flight update from Zurich.
I was the majority trust holder he had underestimated.
I was the woman carrying his child and holding proof that he had planned to use my pregnancy against me.
“Listen carefully,” I told him. “You will not file anything. You will not contact that psychiatrist. You will not touch the trust. And you will not return to this house pretending there is a marriage to save.”
He went quiet.
Then I added the part that broke him.
“My attorney already has everything.”
That was not entirely true yet.
But it would be within the hour.
