How Many Holes You See in This Skirt Determines if You’re a Narcissist

Kelly WhitewoodBy Kelly WhitewoodApril 25, 20263 Mins Read

Internet puzzles have a funny way of turning something simple into a full debate, and this skirt riddle proves it perfectly. At first glance, it looks easy. There’s a skirt, a few visible tears, and one direct question: how many holes are in it?

But the longer people stare, the less obvious the answer becomes.

Some viewers immediately say there are 2 holes, counting only the two large tears on the front of the skirt. Others argue the answer is 4 because, if the tears go all the way through the fabric, then each tear creates an opening on both the front and back. Then another group starts counting the waistband, the bottom opening, and even the tiny drawstring holes near the top.

Suddenly, what looked like a quick visual puzzle becomes a test of logic.

That is what makes these riddles so addictive. They are not just asking what you see. They are asking how you define what you see. Is a hole only damage in the fabric? Or does every opening in the garment count? Should the place where someone puts the skirt on count too? What about the bottom opening where the legs come through?

That is where the arguments begin.

One common explanation counts the skirt’s regular openings first: one at the waist and one at the bottom. Then come the two visible tears. If those tears pass through both layers, some people count them as four instead of two. Add the small drawstring holes, and the total can climb even higher.

That is why so many people give different answers and still feel completely certain.

The claim that this puzzle can reveal whether someone is a narcissist is just clickbait-style exaggeration. A skirt riddle cannot diagnose personality traits or mental health. Its real purpose is much simpler: to make people pause, think, and join the discussion.

And in that sense, it works very well.

These viral brain teasers spread because they are easy for anyone to try. You do not need special knowledge or complicated reasoning. You only need a few seconds, sharp eyes, and the confidence to defend your answer in the comments.

So, what is the correct answer?

It depends on your definition of “hole.” If you count only the visible tears, the answer is 2. If you count those tears as going through both sides, the answer may be 4. If you include the waistband, bottom opening, and drawstring holes, the number changes again.

That is the real charm of the puzzle.

It is not just about the skirt.

It is about how your mind chooses to count what is right in front of you.
