Arnold Schwarzenegger Reveals He Now Has a Pacemaker

Arnold Schwarzenegger — legendary bodybuilder, Hollywood icon, and former California governor — has revealed that he recently underwent surgery to have a pacemaker fitted, marking the latest chapter in his long battle with heart-related health issues.

The announcement came during his Arnold’s Pump Club podcast, where he spoke candidly about the decision. Growing up in Austria, Schwarzenegger noted, health struggles were considered private. But he explained that sharing his journey has encouraged others facing similar conditions, particularly those born with a bicuspid aortic valve, as he was.

“Going against my instinct and being transparent helps people,” he said, adding that countless listeners have written to him about how his openness gave them courage.

    Decades of Heart Challenges

Schwarzenegger’s heart history stretches back nearly three decades. In 1997, he underwent his first open-heart surgery to replace a defective aortic valve. That successful procedure allowed him to continue his demanding career in politics and film.

In 2018, what was supposed to be a less invasive valve replacement turned critical, requiring emergency open-heart surgery. Remarkably, Schwarzenegger recovered in time to film Terminator: Dark Fate shortly after.

Two years later, in 2020, he underwent another valve replacement — underscoring both the seriousness of his condition and the ongoing medical vigilance it requires.

    The New Pacemaker

The most recent operation involved implanting a pacemaker to regulate heartbeat irregularities caused by scar tissue from his prior surgeries. Doctors advised the step to prevent complications, and Schwarzenegger stressed the importance of listening to medical advice and prioritizing long-term health.

    Inspiring Through Openness

Fans and health advocates have widely praised Schwarzenegger for his candor. By speaking openly about his struggles, he has helped break down taboos surrounding serious health conditions and inspired others to seek treatment early.

Despite these challenges, Schwarzenegger remains a symbol of resilience. Known for his relentless drive both on screen and off, he now adds another lesson to his legacy: strength is not just physical — it is also found in transparency, perseverance, and choosing health above all.
