Brooks & Dunn Shock the Industry by Betting Big on Idol Runner-Up John Foster

Brooks & Dunn Offer John Foster a Record Deal—And It Might Just Top Winning American Idol

In a headline-making twist for the country music scene, Brooks & Dunn have stepped in with a bold move: offering American Idol breakout star John Foster a record deal—one that could be more career-defining than the Idol crown itself.

Just days after Foster wrapped American Idol Season 22 as the fan-favorite runner-up, the iconic duo extended an invitation to join Arista Nashville, the powerhouse label behind artists like Carrie Underwood, Brad Paisley, and of course, Brooks & Dunn.

    A Nod From Country’s Titans
Insiders say Ronnie Dunn and Kix Brooks had their eyes on Foster throughout the season, drawn to his raw, rootsy voice and genuine southern soul.

“He’s got that fire we haven’t heard in a long time—think Travis Tritt meets Randy Travis, but he’s his own man,” said Kix Brooks in a statement through Arista. “We believe in what he’s doing, and we want to help shape music that actually sticks.”

Should Foster sign, he’d become one of the youngest talents on the label, backed by two of country’s most legendary mentors.

From Front Porch to Center Stage
At just 22, John Foster’s journey started humbly in Knoxville, Tennessee, where church gospel and front-porch picking shaped his sound.

During American Idol, he won hearts with his classic country tone and storytelling style. His original finale song, “Back Road Revival,” surged to No. 2 on the iTunes Country Chart within 24 hours, solidifying him as a rising force—even without the trophy.

A Tough Moment Behind the Scenes
Foster’s Idol journey, however, came at a cost. Days after the finale, he was hospitalized with vocal strain and exhaustion, worn thin by the emotional and physical toll of the competition.

“He was devastated,” a family member shared. “He felt like he’d let people down.”

That’s when the unexpected happened—Brooks & Dunn called.

Their offer, extended while he was still recovering, reignited his spirit. “It gave him something to believe in,” a source close to Foster revealed. “He said, ‘If they believe in me, maybe I’ve got more to give.’”

    The Road Ahead
Talks are already underway, and Foster is expected to officially sign with Arista Nashville by early summer 2025.

Word is, he’s headed into the studio soon, with Brooks & Dunn helping craft his sound and connect him with a top-tier songwriting team. Rumors even hint at a possible duet with the duo on his debut EP, set to drop in early 2026.

    From Runner-Up to Rising Star
John Foster might not have walked away as Idol champion, but what he’s gaining may be far greater: the mentorship of two legends, a major-label platform, and a career with serious momentum.

As fans watch closely, one thing’s for sure—this is only the beginning of a very big journey.
