Federal Officers Block Democratic Lawmakers from Entering Department of Education Headquarters

In a dramatic confrontation, federal officers prevented Democratic members of Congress from entering the U.S. Department of Education on Friday.

A group of lawmakers had assembled outside the department’s headquarters but were denied access. A video circulating online captures a tense exchange in which an unidentified man challenges the crowd, asking, “What business do you have here?” The lawmakers promptly respond, “Who are you?” followed by a firm declaration: “We are members of Congress!”

Representative Maxwell Frost, sharing a video on X, expressed his frustration over the situation. “I’m here with multiple members of Congress. We’re here to go to the Department of Education to fight for education, and they have locked the doors,” he stated. “They’re not letting us in. The entrance clearly says ‘All Access Entrance,’ yet a random individual is blocking our entry.”

As Frost recorded, Representative Maxine Waters interjected, identifying the man obstructing their access. “His name is Jim Hairfield!” she asserted. Clutching her arms against the chilly Washington, D.C., morning, Waters stood resolute alongside her colleagues.

The incident has raised concerns about transparency and access to federal agencies for elected officials. Further details on the motive behind the restriction and any official response from the Department of Education remain to be seen.
