Today, Elon Musk makes headlines daily. It might be for DOGE, a speech, his aspirations to buy other significant companies, or his relationship to President Donald Trump.
Musk, the world’s richest guy, appears to have the ear of the most powerful man, the US President. Trump enabled Elon Musk to construct DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency) and gave them extra power last week in an unprecedented move.
Many are bitter over the decision, including me. Musk is notoriously controversial. His recent antics are worrisome.

Musk placed his right palm over his heart and lifted it like a Nazi salute. Musk has now denied this was his plan. He remarked on X, “Frankly, they need better dirty tricks. The ‘everyone is Hitler’ attack is tired.”
However, not everyone accepted his explanation. It’s amazing that he ignored this incident and sought to blame the scared. A world leader should not be so indifferent about being compared to a Nazi.
Musk has been in controversy before, and given his need for attention, it definitely won’t be the last. Musk was famous for his personal life before becoming politically active.
Last year, his trans daughter, Vivian Jenna Wilson, revealed that her father was absent and cruel to her for being queer and feminine as a child.
Musk claimed he was duped into authorizing gender-affirming care for her at 16. He called her figuratively ‘dead,’ a terrible thing to say about your child to millions.
In an interview, 21-year-old Vivian said Musk was lying because while he was hesitant, he fully understood the trans-related medical procedures he was signing off on for her as her parent. I think he thought I wouldn’t say anything and let this go unchallenged. She said she would not let you lie about me to millions of people.
I believe that if your child criticizes you for lying, it reflects poorly on your character.
Musk is a proud pro-natalist who talks endlessly about a “population collapse” and wants to increase birth rates. He has 12 children with three women and several surrogates. Recent claims by Ashely St. Claire suggest a 13th child.
Grimes, his ex-girlfriend, is the mother of three of his children. Grimes gave birth to their first child, but the other two were surrogates.
Musk dating Grimes raised eyebrows, and not just because of their age gap. Grimes was a music industry feminist icon. Championing female and queer artists was her specialty.
So when Grimes who was known for being vocal about her progressive politics was seen dating Elon Musk, people were shocked to say the least. She had the term “anti-imperialist” in her Twitter bio, which she famously removed after she appeared publicly at the Met Gale on Elon Musk’s arm. An artist who was loud and proud about being against capitalism was suddenly dating the world’s richest man. In 2018, she even justified some of Musk’s behavior on Twitter (now X), such as his dissuading his workers at Tesla from unionizing.
The act of being an anti-capitalist alternative musician slowly slipped away, and she was exposed to be someone who did not hate capitalism at all when provided with the possibility to love someone who is quite literally the face of it in the 21st century.
Throughout all of this, she has aggressively tried to maintain that her politics are progressive and position herself as someone who is on the side of queer youth. She recently wrote to Instagram about how she is giving from her music video to fund and produce female and non-binary lead art.
However, she was not only in a relationship with Musk but welcomed three children with him. While she gave birth to their eldest, X Æ A-Xii, the younger two, Exa Dark Siderael and Techno Mechanicus, were welcomed via surrogate.
Last year, Grimes talked up about the custody struggle with Musk. She wrote, “Spent a year locked in battle in a state with terrible mothers rights having my instagram posts and modeling used as reasons I shouldn’t have my kids and fighting and detaching from the love if my life as he comes unrecognizable to me, with a fraction of his resources (or iq/strategy experience).”
“All the while I didn’t see one of my babies for 5 months. And this is only what may be expressed publicly, since most of my experience these last years should remain behind closed doors,” she added.
Now my question is, why is she surprised? Had she not seen how Musk had been treating his exes in the past? She betrayed her principles to be with a man who did not align with the ideology she sold to fans for years, and when he betrayed her and tried to throw her under the bus, she came back to the same fans for sympathy.
She made the decision to bring three children into this world with a man who denied his eldest child’s transition and has said she is ‘figuratively’ dead. Vivian Jenna Wilson, who has said Musk was an absentee father, does not consider him a parent. However, Grimes ignored all of this and tried to change her tune to ‘woe-is-me’ when the world’s most powerful man used his assets against her.
When she couldn’t enjoy Musk’s power, money, and influence by being on his good side, she seemed to withdraw her support.
I’m sick of her antics. She tweets like she cares about the world. After Musk’s Nazi salute, she asked people not to blame her for her ex’s actions. Unfortunately, having three children with a person who has never hidden his intentions and motives requires you to distance yourself from them.
Grimes still promotes love, queer youth, and more, but she finds it tedious to clarify that she does not support her ex’s harmful internet rhetoric?
Her ‘aw shucks’ attitude toward fans is also annoying. Her tweets appear seductive, wide-eyed, and hair-twirling. “I honestly thank the people who are still grimes fans cuz my god I have not made it easy for you haha. She encourages her supporters to soothe her, saying it’s like a magical trial to steel the will.
Through all of this, she will also sometimes post something which confuses people about her true feelings towards Elon Musk. On January 18, 2024, she posted, “Just for my personal pride, I would like to state that the father of my children was the first american druid in diablo to clear abattoir of zir and ended that season as best in the USA. He was also ranking in Polytopia, and beat Felix himself at the game. I did observe these things with my own eyes. There are other witnesses who can verify this. That is all.” Alluding to Elon’s gaming talents and how they bring her pride. At one point, she will bemoan about how he is using his possessions to bully her legally and then post about how proud she is of his gaming skills.
Can she pick a lane? On one side she will be quick to deny Elon’s acts as having anything to do with her but then also tweet about the time they were together, seeking to remind people of her affiliation with her. Either she wants people to focus on her and her music, or she wants to remind them of her relationship with Elon, she cannot have both yet somehow, it seems she picks and chooses a way as she pleases in the moment.
As an adult woman, she is allowed to make her own judgments, but what frustrates me about her is that she intentionally chose to date someone who went against all the ideals she claimed to respect. This moral flip-flopping is not disagreeable but it is boring and completely see-through.
If Grimes would be grownup enough to acknowledge all her acts and say, ‘yes, I changed my view about capitalism, imperialism and willingly had three children with a man who represented a lot of things I said to have opposed,’ it would have still been palatable. She needs to quit portraying herself as a progressive alternative artist and admit that she is much like everyone else she attempts to distance herself from.
We all know the truth about her now. So, can we quit acting like she is any better than the father of her children?
