After six years, Heather Unbehaun, the subject of a highly publicized case of kidnapping, has willingly turned herself in to the police. In 2017, Unbehaun was charged with kidnapping her South Elgin, Illinois, daughter, Kayla. She is currently accused of kidnapping a child and is being held without access to bond at the Kane County Adult Justice Center in Illinois.

Kayla was found safe in North Carolina a few days prior to Unbehaun’s surrender, and she was reunited with her custodial father, Ryan Iserka. On the basis of an Illinois fugitive warrant, Unbehaun was apprehended in North Carolina on accusations of kidnapping and kidnapping a child. She was originally being detained on a $250,000 bond, but earlier this week, she posted bail and was freed, according to the Asheville Police Department. On July 4, 2017, Heather and Kayla disappeared from a South Elgin parade, ostensibly for a camping trip. Since they didn’t show up, a felony warrant was issued for Heather’s arrest. When someone identified Kayla from an episode of Netflix’s Unsolved Mysteries and alerted authorities, the case garnered a lot of attention and she was able to recover safely.

Ryan Iserka praised fans and law police for getting him and Kayla back together. The next court date for Heather Unbehaun is Wednesday morning at the Kane County Judicial Center.
