Drag racer Nathan Schaldach, better known as Cali Nate from the Discovery TV series Street Outlaws, passed away in a fatal vehicle accident. It happened in southwest Texas on a Saturday night.

In a moving Facebook message, Schaldach’s girlfriend Courtney Paulshock confirmed his passing and called him her “soul mate.” “I am completely broken. “I’m stunned,” she posted on Sunday. “I feel like my heart is breaking.”

About two hours west of San Antonio, in Eagle Pass, Schaldach was racing when the accident occurred. His buddies were able to transport him to the hospital, but he was too badly injured to live.

Paulshock made the decision to keep the nature of the crash and its preludes secret, declining to provide any information about them. She found comfort in the idea that Schaldach was now reunited with his deceased mother and sister. She said, “He went out doing what he loved.”

Online condolences and expressions of sorrow for Schaldach’s unexpected departure have been posted by his friends and admirers. A close friend named Chris Frank talked about how hard it was to sleep after hearing the heartbreaking news in a Facebook video.

Frank remarked, “Those of you who were friends with him loved him, and those of you who raced him feared him.” We are all aware that racing is an extremely risky activity and that any given ride may be our last. One of the last genuine racers with a genuine love and comprehension of the sport was Nate.

Paulshock included one of Schaldach’s last texts in her article, in which she promised to love him forever.

The drag racing world is in mourning over the passing of an ardent competitor who will always be cherished for his commitment to and love of the sport.
