Alan Jackson, the legendary country music star, bravely opened up about his battle with Charcot-Marie Tooth disease (CMT) in 2021, shedding light on his health struggles after silently fighting the disease for over a decade.

In an interview with Today’s Jenna Bush Hager, Jackson shared the challenges of living with CMT, a genetic disorder affecting the nerves in the feet, legs, hands, and arms. He inherited the condition from his father and described it as related to muscular dystrophy and Parkinson’s disease.

Despite the progressive nature of CMT, Jackson emphasized that it’s not life-threatening but has started to affect his balance, making him feel uncomfortable, especially on stage.

Throughout his journey, Jackson has found unwavering support from his wife, Denise Jackson, whom he married in 1979. Denise has been his rock, standing by him through thick and thin, and continues to lift him up during difficult times.

Denise’s chance encounter with the late Glen Campbell played a pivotal role in Jackson’s career, leading to his entry into the Nashville music scene. Jackson fondly remembers Campbell’s influence and acknowledges the debt of gratitude he owes to him.

In 2022, Jackson was honored with the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award at the CMA Awards, where he expressed gratitude to Denise for her unwavering support over their 40-year marriage.

Despite his health challenges, Jackson embarked on his Last Call: One More for the Road Tour in 2022, emphasizing that it’s not a farewell tour but an opportunity to share his music with fans.

Reflecting on his decision to speak publicly about his health struggles, Jackson acknowledged the irony of his condition being named CMT, which played a significant role in his career.

As fans reminisce about their favorite memories of Alan Jackson, it’s evident that his enduring legacy and contributions to country music will continue to be cherished for years to come.
