Hayden Panettiere’s Autopsy Results Revealed as Neighbor Breaks Silence on ‘Commotion’ Before Her Death
New details surrounding Hayden Panettiere’s sudden death at 36 are emerging, offering a closer look at the Heroes and Nashville star’s final hours while leaving the biggest question unanswered: what caused her death?
According to reports citing the Greenville County Coroner’s Office, Panettiere was found unresponsive on August 16, 2026, inside a South Carolina residence where she had reportedly been staying temporarily. An autopsy has since been completed, while people who were nearby that day are sharing what they remember.
Hayden Panettiere’s Autopsy Reveals a Significant Detail
Authorities said a 911 call was received at approximately 1:51 p.m. for a reported cardiac arrest. Emergency responders attempted advanced lifesaving measures, but Panettiere was pronounced dead at 2:32 p.m.
The Coroner’s Office confirmed her identity and noted that the California-based actress had been temporarily staying at the residence.
While officials have yet to announce an official cause or manner of death, the autopsy reportedly established one important fact.
Officials stressed that the investigation remains active and that additional testing will be necessary before a final determination is made.
Police have also said their preliminary investigation found no indication of foul play or suspicious circumstances.
Neighbor Recalls Hearing ‘A Bunch of Commotion’
As questions surrounding Panettiere’s final hours continue, neighbor Micah Lee recalled noticing unusual activity inside the building that afternoon.
Lee said he subsequently heard that somebody had collapsed and that people were discussing a possible cardiac arrest, though he emphasized that he could not independently confirm what had happened.
Another resident told Page Six that learning Panettiere was the person who had died came as a shock because they had never previously noticed the Hollywood actress at the property.
The resident also recalled seeing two men outside the apartment with police, describing them as appearing shocked and sitting silently with their heads down.
Questions Remain About Hayden Panettiere’s Final Hours
Reports about emergency dispatch communications have fueled further speculation. Page Six reported that dispatch audio referred to an apparent overdose and that Narcan — a medication capable of reversing an opioid overdose — was found at the scene.

However, neither that reported dispatch description nor the presence of Narcan establishes Panettiere’s cause of death. Officials have not announced whether the medication was administered to the actress, and toxicology and other testing remained pending.
The subject has drawn particular attention because Panettiere had previously spoken candidly about struggles with alcohol and substance abuse.
In a 2022 interview, she recalled being offered what she called “happy pills” before red-carpet appearances when she was a teenager.
Years later, she continued discussing depression, anxiety, addiction and her efforts to rebuild her life.
The Personal Loss That Changed Panettiere
Panettiere had also endured devastating grief following the February 2023 death of her younger brother, Jansen Panettiere, at only 28. His death was attributed to an undiagnosed heart condition.
Speaking about Jansen in 2024, Hayden described how profoundly the loss affected her.
More recently, the actress had been discussing her personal life publicly while promoting her memoir, This Is Me: A Reckoning.
