Mom Defends Her Rare Twin Girls With Down Syndrome After Cruel Comments Online

While twin births have become more common over the years, they are still considered relatively rare. Between 1980 and 2018, the chances of having twins increased significantly, yet only around 33 out of every 1,000 births result in twins.

Identical twins are even rarer, occurring in only about three or four births per 1,000.

So when 23-year-old Savannah Combs learned she was pregnant with identical twin girls, it already felt incredibly special. Then doctors revealed something even more uncommon — both babies had Down syndrome.

For Savannah and her husband, Justin Ackerman, the news brought strong emotions and uncertainty. They understood that some people would judge their daughters because of the diagnosis.
