In particular, she finds herself overwhelmed during the song “From Here To The Moon and Back,” which she originally wrote for him.
She shared in a recent interview:
“I get very emotional. Like the part about Carl, of course… When they start singing a song called ‘From Here To The Moon and Back,’ I cry every time.
In a way, it’s kind of healing to relive my life like that. To sit back and watch it, instead of having to live it.”
Grieving in Private, Working in Public
Although Dolly hasn’t stepped away from her work, those close to her say she is still deeply grieving. Nearly 60 years with the same partner creates a bond most people never experience. Carl was her anchor, her safe place, and — in her own words — the only man she ever loved.
