Barbra Streisand & Michael Bublé’s Duet of “It Had to Be You” Captivates Millions

In 2014, Barbra Streisand and Michael Bublé joined forces to record a breathtaking rendition of the timeless classic “It Had to Be You.” Originally made famous by legends like Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald, the song found new life through the extraordinary chemistry and vocal mastery of these two icons.

A Duet for the Ages

Their version—sophisticated, soulful, and effortlessly elegant—showcases a rare musical partnership between two generations of pop and jazz greats. The collaboration quickly became a fan favorite, amassing over 12 million YouTube views and earning praise for its emotional depth and seamless blend of voices.

To mark the 10th anniversary of the recording, Bublé reflected on the unforgettable experience in a heartfelt post shared on July 15, writing:

“Believe me when I tell you, it’s been 10 years and I’m still starstruck.”

Mutual Admiration in the Studio

During their recording session, Streisand spoke glowingly of Bublé’s artistry, recalling the natural flow of creativity that shaped their duet:

“You can just tell by his attitude, his voice, his freedom, his sense of self… and so we can play. ‘OK, you do this, I do that.’ Somehow, I made a mistake, and I sang his part… and somehow these wonderful accidents happen.”

Those “accidents” turned into magic — a moment of spontaneity that captured the authenticity and charm both singers are known for.

A Modern Classic

Over the decades, “It Had to Be You” has been covered by countless greats — Frank Sinatra, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Tony Bennett — each giving it a unique stamp. Streisand and Bublé’s version, however, stands out as a modern interpretation of timeless romance, bridging eras with warmth and grace.

Ten years later, the duet remains one of the most beloved reinterpretations of the classic, reminding listeners why Barbra Streisand and Michael Bublé continue to represent the gold standard in vocal performance.
