Keith Urban Reportedly Upset Over Nicole Kidman’s Controversial Babygirl Role: “He Didn’t Even Like Her Promoting It”

Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman’s Split: Inside the End of a Hollywood Love Story

It’s official — after nearly two decades together, one of Hollywood and Nashville’s most admired couples has called it quits. Nicole Kidman has filed for divorce from Keith Urban, marking the end of a 19-year marriage that once seemed unbreakable.

According to multiple reports, the pair had been quietly living apart since early summer, when Urban reportedly moved out of their Nashville home. While some insiders claim Kidman fought hard to save the relationship, others say it was Urban who ultimately wanted out. Either way, fans are heartbroken to see the end of what looked like a fairytale romance.

The couple share two daughters — Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14 — and have long been praised for keeping their family grounded despite global fame.

A Love Story That Started Like a Movie

Their story began back in 2005 at the G’Day USA gala in Los Angeles. Urban, already a major country star, admitted he was completely captivated by Kidman.

“I felt like I’d snuck into the royal ball,” he once said. “Nic has this otherworldly aura, and I was terrified to call her. I carried her number in my pocket for a week before I finally worked up the courage.”

When he finally did, sparks flew immediately. By 2006, they were married in a romantic ceremony in Sydney, Australia — the perfect union of Hollywood elegance and country charm.

    Cracks Begin to Show

Over the years, the couple weathered challenges, including Urban’s battle with addiction early in their marriage. But publicly, they always appeared united — affectionate on red carpets, supportive in interviews, and vocal about their love for one another.

Still, behind closed doors, things may have been more complicated. In recent months, speculation intensified after a radio interview resurfaced showing Urban abruptly disconnecting mid-conversation. During the appearance on Australia’s Mix 102.3, a host asked him about Kidman’s romantic scenes with Zac Efron in A Family Affair.

“What does Keith Urban think when he sees his beautiful wife with beautiful younger men like Zac Efron having these beautiful love scenes?”

Seconds later, the line went dead. The hosts claimed Urban or someone from his team had hung up.

While minor on its own, the moment hinted at growing discomfort over Kidman’s increasingly provocative film roles — particularly her 2024 movie Babygirl, which featured explicit, controversial scenes.

    A source told Page Six:

“Keith didn’t like the film, and he didn’t even like Nicole promoting the movie.”

    More Than Just One Film

While Babygirl may have been the flashpoint, friends say the issues ran deeper — distance, differing priorities, and long stretches apart due to work all took their toll.

Kidman has been filming back-to-back projects across the globe, while Urban continues touring. That separation, according to insiders, created a growing emotional gap neither could bridge.

    The End of an Era

For fans, it’s a painful goodbye to one of the entertainment world’s most beloved marriages — a rare pairing that seemed to blend glamour and authenticity.

They first fell for each other as two lonely souls who found connection in an unlikely place. Nineteen years later, they’re parting ways with love, sadness, and, no doubt, plenty of private heartbreak.

Whether Babygirl played a role or simply symbolized a bigger disconnect, one thing’s clear: the fairytale has ended.

But for many who watched them over the years, Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman will always remain one of Hollywood’s great love stories — beautiful, imperfect, and deeply human to the very end.
