Nicole Kidman Files for Divorce After 19 Years
Just one day after news broke that Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban had separated, the Oscar-winning actress officially filed for divorce on Sept. 30, citing “irreconcilable differences.” Court documents shed new light on their financial arrangements, custody agreements, and the events leading up to the end of their nearly two-decade marriage.
Finances and Prenup Terms
As part of the filing, Kidman’s attorney submitted a Child Support Worksheet showing that both Nicole and Keith earn around $100,000 per month. Forbes recently ranked Nicole as 2024’s highest-paid actress, estimating her earnings at $31 million thanks to projects like The Perfect Couple, Lioness, Expats, Babygirl, and A Family Affair.
Despite their wealth, neither party will pay alimony or spousal support. The filings also state that neither will provide child support, with the total ordered from both parties set at $0.
Custody Agreements
Nicole requested to be the primary residential parent of daughters Sunday Rose (17) and Faith Margaret (14). Under the Parenting Plan, the girls will spend 306 days a year with Nicole and 59 days with Keith.
The agreement also outlines that both parents must foster a “loving, stable, consistent and nurturing relationship” with their children, avoid speaking poorly of one another, and encourage the girls’ relationships with both parents.
Signs of Trouble Over the Summer
Though the official separation date is Sept. 30, cracks appeared earlier:
Summer 2025: The couple began living apart. Keith was on his High and Alive World Tour, while Nicole remained with their daughters.
June 20, 2025: They were last seen together publicly at the FIFA Club World Cup in Nashville.
June 25, 2025: Nicole marked their 19th anniversary with a heartfelt Instagram post; Keith responded only with a heart emoji, posting nothing himself.
July 1, 2025: Keith abruptly walked out of a radio interview after being asked about Nicole’s onscreen chemistry with Zac Efron.
July 24, 2025: Nicole applied for residency in Portugal without Keith listed, though sources explained his absence was due to tour obligations.
August 2025: Nicole’s lawyer drafted the Parenting Plan, later signed by both parties. Keith notarized the Marital Dissolution Agreement on Aug. 29; Nicole followed on Sept. 6.
The Divorce Becomes Official
By late September, the paperwork was complete. Kidman was even spotted wearing her wedding ring just days before filing, but on Sept. 30 she formally submitted the divorce petition, locking in the date of separation. Both the Marital Dissolution Agreement and Parenting Plan were filed in a Tennessee court for approval.
What Comes Next
While Kidman reportedly tried to save the marriage, insiders told E! News that it was Keith who ultimately made the decision to end things. For now, Nicole will continue raising her daughters primarily at home in Nashville while managing her international filming schedule.
The divorce marks the end of one of Hollywood’s longest-running high-profile marriages—one that fans had long admired for its balance of love, career, and family.
