Fresh off the success of “Slow Down Summer,” Thomas Rhett is teaming up with good friend Riley Green for his latest single, “Half Of Me.”
The track comes from Rhett’s album Where We Started, and as he tells it, Riley was the first person who came to mind after writing it. “I knew from the moment we finished—me, my dad (Rhett Akins), Josh Thompson, and Will Bundy—we were on the bus in Cincinnati when the idea came together. I just kept picturing Riley singing on it. We’ve gotten pretty close these past few years, hunting together, hanging out… he’s just a good friend. He drove up from Alabama, laid his vocals down in about three takes, and we laughed through the whole thing. He even joined me on stage in Ohio for it once, and it just felt right. It’s a fun, easygoing beer-drinking song for summer, and Riley was the perfect fit.”
For Riley, the invite was an easy “yes.” “Thomas called and sent me the song, and I thought right away—this is a great summer tune. It’s the kind of beer-drinking, put-work-off-for-a-bit song I grew up on. Honestly, it reminded me of my childhood, and probably a lot of people’s.”
Fans can hear “Half Of Me” live when Thomas kicks off his Bring The Bar To You Tour with Parker McCollum and Conner Smith on June 17 in New Hampshire. And there’s a chance audiences might get the duo together on stage again. “Hopefully Riley can pop up somewhere… or maybe I’ll show up at one of his shows,” Rhett teased. Riley’s answer? “Let’s go!”
