Lainey Wilson Splits Her Pants Onstage — and Handles It Like a Total Pro
During her headlining set at the Faster Horses Festival 2024 on July 20, Lainey Wilson had an unexpected wardrobe malfunction — right in the middle of the show. While performing at Michigan International Speedway, her signature bell-bottom jeans split wide open. But true to her down-to-earth style, Wilson kept the show rolling.
Still holding her mic, she slipped backstage and asked the packed crowd to give her a few minutes to change. Backstage, though, things weren’t exactly smooth sailing. “Changing jeans when you’re already sweating isn’t fun,” the “Heart Like A Truck” singer joked later, admitting she had to jump into her fresh pair to make it work.

When she returned — now wearing a new set of jeans and standing on her signature truck set piece — the crowd erupted in cheers. She met them with a smile and a laugh: “Y’all just about got a real show,” she said with a wink. “There’s a first time for everything, and I’m glad it was y’all I split my pants in front of.” She added that she wouldn’t have even noticed if the crew hadn’t given her a heads-up.
Fans loved her response. One TikTok user commented, “She’s so dang genuine & funny!” Another said, “I was at Faster Horses too! She’s absolutely amazing and put on one hell of a show ♥️♥️.”
And believe it or not, this isn’t the first time Wilson’s pants have gone viral. Back in December 2022, a video of her in leopard-print flare jeans caught fire on TikTok — thanks to her curves and killer stage presence. That clip even inspired a wave of women showing off their own flare pants and flaunting their confidence.
After the Faster Horses incident, Wilson took to Instagram to share her new pre-show routine: stretching, squatting, and doing side-to-side dance moves to make sure her jeans can keep up. She set the video to her track “Hang Tight Honey” — a perfect choice.
With more than 40 shows still ahead on the North American leg of her tour, this new habit should help keep any future fashion mishaps at bay. The tour leads up to the release of her fifth studio album, Whirlwind, dropping August 23.
And if nothing else, Lainey’s keeping it real — one ripped pair of jeans at a time.
