The 2019 CMT Artists of the Year ceremony was meant to be a night of celebration, but for Kane Brown, it became a bittersweet and heartbreaking evening.

Just days before the event, Kane’s longtime drummer and close friend, Kenny Dixon, tragically lost his life in a car accident. Still grieving, Kane bravely took the stage to accept his award and delivered an emotional tribute that left no one untouched.

“He started with me coming out of Chattanooga, off Facebook,” Kane said, his voice shaking.
“People didn’t think we would make it, but he was with me the whole time.”

Fighting back tears, Kane spoke candidly about the deep bond he shared with Dixon—not just as a bandmate, but as family.

“I love you, man. I miss you. The band misses you.”

It was a raw, vulnerable moment that gripped everyone in the room. Fellow artists stood in quiet solidarity, fans at home wiped away tears, and the gravity of Kane’s loss filled the space.

More Than a Bandmate — A Brother

Kenny Dixon wasn’t just part of Kane’s music—he was part of Kane’s journey. From early days playing small gigs to selling out arenas, Dixon was a constant presence, offering loyalty, strength, and unwavering support.
