Lauren Daigle Delivers a Powerful Message of Faith on the ‘American Idol’ Stage

At 29, Lauren Daigle continues to captivate audiences across both Christian and mainstream music circles. Her rise has been nothing short of extraordinary—landing at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 in 2018, even ahead of chart giants like Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj, and Drake. With her heartfelt sound and unshakable mission, she’s been making waves while sharing the Gospel with believers and skeptics alike.

That same breakout year, Daigle not only topped the Christian music charts but also achieved the biggest sales week for a Christian album in nearly a decade with the release of Look Up, Child.

From performing inside maximum-security prisons to gracing the stages of The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and The Ellen Show, Daigle’s reach has spanned every corner of the cultural landscape.

On Monday night, she made a meaningful return to American Idol—the very show where her journey once began. Over ten years ago, a then-17-year-old Lauren auditioned for the judges, only to be turned away. But instead of halting her dreams, that moment became the launching pad for a soaring career.

Her single You Say went on to make music history, holding the record for the longest-running No. 1 of any genre on Billboard’s weekly charts, reigning for an incredible 125 weeks.

Now a multi-platinum artist and two-time GRAMMY Award winner, Daigle is a force in both Christian and pop music, with even greater heights still ahead.

During her Idol homecoming, she performed “Look Up, Child”—a fan favorite that has touched hearts across the world. The performance was emotional, raw, and unmistakably her: a voice of hope in uncertain times.

    She sang:

    Where are You now
    When darkness seems to win?
    Where are You now
    When the world is crumbling?
    Oh I, I-I-I, I hear You say
    I hear You say
    Look up child, ayy
    Look up child, ayy
Where are You now (where are You?)
When all I feel is doubt?
    Oh, where are You now
When I can’t figure it out?
You’re not threatened by the war
You’re not shaken by the storm
    I know You’re in control
    Even in our suffering
Even when it can’t be seen
    I know You’re in control
