Lainey Wilson Pays Tribute to Texas and Premieres “Hang Tight Honey” in Unforgettable ACM Performance
At the 59th Academy of Country Music (ACM) Awards, held on May 16, 2024, at the Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas, Lainey Wilson gave a show-stopping performance that captivated the audience from start to finish. Opening the ceremony, Wilson effortlessly showcased her versatility and dynamic stage presence with renditions of the classic “God Blessed Texas” and her newly released song “Hang Tight Honey.”
“God Blessed Texas,” a 1993 hit by the country band Little Texas, celebrates the pride and spirit of the Lone Star State. Wilson’s choice to perform this anthem was a heartfelt nod to the event’s Texas roots and a tribute to the state’s rich country music legacy.
Dressed in her signature bell-bottoms and radiating Southern charm, Wilson made the classic tune her own, infusing it with her powerful vocals and contagious energy. The audience responded with enthusiasm, many singing along to the familiar lyrics, underscoring the song’s timeless appeal and Wilson’s natural ability to engage her fans.
After honoring Texas with the beloved anthem, Wilson smoothly transitioned into the live debut of her original track, “Hang Tight Honey,” which had just been released on May 13, 2024. This song, co-written by Wilson alongside Jason Nix, Paul Sikes, and Driver Williams, reflects her experiences on the road and the emotions tied to being away from home.
“Hang Tight Honey” is an anthem for hard-working individuals committed to providing for their families, capturing both the struggles and the love that fuel their dedication. The melody blends traditional country with funk-rock elements, creating a rhythm that’s both infectious and unique.
Wilson’s emotive performance brought the song’s heartfelt lyrics to life, and the upbeat tempo showcased her range as an artist. The live debut of “Hang Tight Honey” at the ACM Awards was a key moment, marking another milestone in her rising country music career.
The performance garnered widespread praise from both fans and critics, further cementing Wilson’s reputation for honoring country music’s roots while introducing fresh, contemporary material. The seamless combination of “God Blessed Texas” and “Hang Tight Honey” in her set demonstrated her ability to appeal to diverse audiences.
Thanks to the exposure from the ACM Awards, “Hang Tight Honey” quickly gained traction, debuting at number 23 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart in May 2024 and reaching number 13 by July 2024. This success marked Wilson’s emergence as a powerful force in country music, with her potential for even greater hits on the horizon.
