John Goodman hospitalized after film set injury

Hollywood icon John Goodman, 72, was rushed to the hospital after an unexpected accident on set, causing production on his latest film with Tom Cruise to pause temporarily.

The incident occurred at Pinewood Studios in the UK, where Goodman reportedly suffered a hip injury after an unforeseen fall while blocking a scene.

Despite being 72, Goodman remains as active as ever. The beloved actor has been working on a new project alongside Tom Cruise, proving that age is no barrier to staying in the game.

The film, tentatively titled *Judy*, stars Cruise as a powerful figure on a mission to save humanity. Directed by Oscar-winner Alejandro González Iñárritu, the production has been underway for nearly two months and is set for release in October 2026.

However, filming has now been put on hold due to Goodman’s injury. Given Cruise’s reputation for high-risk stunts, one might assume he was the one hurt—but it was actually Goodman who was hospitalized after slipping or falling while blocking a scene. The accident, while not related to any stunt work, resulted in a hip injury.

The exact nature and severity of the injury remain unclear, but according to *The Mirror*, he was taken to the hospital for treatment. Fortunately, the veteran actor is expected to recover soon, reassuring fans that he’ll be back in action in no time.

“He received immediate medical attention, which led to a brief delay in shooting to allow him time to heal. Production is set to resume next week following John’s full recovery,” a Warner Bros. Pictures spokesperson confirmed.

This sci-fi thriller isn’t just another big-budget spectacle—it brings together an impressive cast. Alongside Goodman and Cruise, the film features Sandra Hüller, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jesse Plemons, and Sophie Wilde, adding even more star power to the project.

For Cruise, this marks a significant return to Warner Bros. Discovery after signing a major development and production deal earlier this year. It’s his first collaboration with the studio in a decade, following *Edge of Tomorrow* in 2014.

With his recent successes in *Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning* and *Top Gun: Maverick*, Cruise continues his streak of high-profile projects, and *Judy* is shaping up to be another must-watch sci-fi thriller.

While Goodman has been a Hollywood staple for decades, he has faced personal battles behind the scenes, including struggles with depression, anxiety, and alcohol addiction.

After losing his father at just two years old, he dealt with panic attacks early in his acting career and even drank on set during *Roseanne’s* peak. In 2007, with the support of his wife, he entered rehab and has remained sober ever since.

Beyond overcoming addiction, Goodman also made major changes to his physical health. At one point weighing nearly 400 pounds, he worked with trainer Mackie Shilstone to adopt a slow, sustainable approach to weight loss. He eliminated alcohol, committed to regular exercise, and embraced a Mediterranean diet rich in fish, nuts, olive oil, vegetables, and fruit.

Through years of dedication, Goodman lost over 100 pounds and continues to maintain his healthier lifestyle.

“This didn’t happen overnight—it’s been a long-term commitment,” Shilstone told *The New York Post*. “This time, he was ready to make the change.”

It’s been a challenging start to the year for John Goodman, and it’s only March. With his recent on-set accident briefly sidelining him, fans are hoping for his speedy recovery as production on *Judy* prepares to resume.
