New details have surfaced regarding the deaths of three young women at a beach resort, with a news reporter also weighing in on the case.

Authorities in Belize are investigating the mysterious deaths of three American women who were discovered unresponsive in their hotel room at a high-end beachfront resort over the weekend. The victims—23-year-old Koutar Naqqad, 24-year-old Imane Mallah, and 26-year-old Wafae El-Arar—were found dead Saturday morning at the Royal Kahal Beach Resort in San Pedro.

Officials reported that the women, originally from Morocco and living in Revere, Massachusetts, had checked into the resort Thursday evening. Surveillance footage confirmed that after entering their room, they were not seen leaving.

Investigators are considering several possible causes of death, including carbon monoxide poisoning and potential drug overdoses.

Alcohol and gummies were discovered in the room, with the Belize police commissioner noting past cases where contaminated gummies had led to hospitalizations. An autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday to determine the official cause of death.

The hotel staff initially knocked on the door Friday but left after receiving no response. Authorities estimate that the women had been deceased for around 20 hours before being found.

According to the NY Post, hotel staff made multiple attempts to contact the women on Friday but received no reply. When they remained unreachable by Saturday, staff entered the room and discovered them unresponsive.

Boston 25 News reporter Bob Ward shared touching images of the three women, who were lifelong friends, and mentioned speaking with a family member of one of the victims. Further details on the case are expected soon.
